IronFX supports the research project of the University of Nicosia, aiming to combat obesity and improve physical fitness of adolescents in Cyprus.

IronFX continues its ethical and socially active philosophy by donating a generous amount for the implementation of the research project directed by Dr Christoforos Giannaki, faculty member of the Department of Life and Health Sciences - University of Nicosia. The focus of the project is on physical activity and health promotion, taking place at the Agios Antonios Lyceum, located in the city of Limassol, Cyprus.

IronFX’s donation was crucial for the acquisition of important equipment, necessary for the execution of the proposed project.

Adolescent obesity has increased radically in recent years and it is the proven cause of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and hypertension in adult life. Therefore, physical education and activity classes at school are very important. Research has shown a great percentage of adolescents have a low fitness level and have an increased risk for the diseases mentioned above. The project will serve as an intervention in order to increase physical activity and the fitness level of adolescents within the school environment.

The use of this scientific equipment will increase the quality of the research and its potential outcome both on a local and international level.

Introduction to stocks

Wouldn’t you love to be a business owner without ever having to show up at work? Imagine if you could sit back, watch your company grow, and collect the dividend checks as the money rolls in! This situation might sound like a pipe dream, but it’s closer to reality than you might think.

As you’ve probably guessed, we’re talking about owning stocks. This fabulous category of financial instruments is, without a doubt, one of the greatest tools ever invented for building wealth. Stocks are a part, if not the cornerstone, of nearly any investment portfolio. When you start on your road to financial freedom, you need to have a solid understanding of stocks and how they trade on the stock market.

Over the last few decades, the average person’s interest in the stock market has grown exponentially. What was once a toy of the rich has now turned into the vehicle of choice for growing wealth. This demand coupled with advances in trading technology has opened up the markets so that nowadays nearly anybody can own stocks.

Despite their popularity, however, most people don’t fully understand stocks. Much is learned from conversations around the water cooler with others who also don’t know what they’re talking about. Chances are you’ve already heard people say things like, “Bob’s cousin made a killing in XYZ company, and now he’s got another hot tip…” or “Watch out with stocks–you can lose your shirt in a matter of days!” So much of this misinformation is based on a get-rich-quick mentality, which was especially prevalent during the amazing dotcom market in the late 90s. People thought that stocks were the magic answer to instant wealth with no risk. The ensuing dotcom crash proved that this is not the case. Stocks can (and do) create massive amounts of wealth, but they aren’t without risks. The only solution to this is education. The key to protecting yourself in the stock market is to understand where you are putting your money.

It is for this reason that we’ve created this tutorial: to provide the foundation you need to make investment decisions yourself. We’ll start by explaining what a stock is and the different types of stock, and then we’ll talk about how they are traded, what causes prices to change, how you buy stocks, and much more.

Forex Fundamentals

What Is Forex?
The foreign exchange market is the “place” where currencies are traded. Currencies are important to most people around the world, whether they realize it or not, because currencies need to be exchanged in order to conduct foreign trade and business. If you are living in the U.S. and want to buy cheese from France, either you or the company that you buy the cheese from has to pay the French for the cheese in euros (EUR). This means that the U.S. importer would have to exchange the equivalent value of U.S. dollars (USD) into euros. The same goes for traveling. A French tourist in Egypt can’t pay in euros to see the pyramids because it’s not the locally accepted currency. As such, the tourist has to exchange the euros for the local currency, in this case the Egyptian pound, at the current exchange rate.

The need to exchange currencies is the primary reason why the forex market is the largest, most liquid financial market in the world. It dwarfs other markets in size, even the stock market, with an average traded value of around U.S. $2,000 billion per day. (The total volume changes all the time, but as of August 2012, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) reported that the forex market traded in excess of U.S. $4.9 trillion per day.)

One unique aspect of this international market is that there is no central marketplace for foreign exchange. Rather, currency trading is conducted electronically over-the-counter (OTC), which means that all transactions occur via computer networks between traders around the world, rather than on one centralized exchange. The market is open 24 hours a day, five and a half days a week, and currencies are traded worldwide in the major financial centers of London, New York, Tokyo, Zurich, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris and Sydney – across almost every time zone. This means that when the trading day in the U.S. ends, the forex market begins anew in Tokyo and Hong Kong. As such, the forex market can be extremely active any time of the day, with price quotes changing constantly.

Spot Market and the Forwards and Futures Markets
There are actually three ways that institutions, corporations and individuals trade forex: the spot market, the forwards market and the futures market. The forex trading in the spot market always has been the largest market because it is the “underlying” real asset that the forwards and futures markets are based on. In the past, the futures market was the most popular venue for traders because it was available to individual investors for a longer period of time. However, with the advent of electronic trading, the spot market has witnessed a huge surge in activity and now surpasses the futures market as the preferred trading market for individual investors and speculators. When people refer to the forex market, they usually are referring to the spot market. The forwards and futures markets tend to be more popular with companies that need to hedge their foreign exchange risks out to a specific date in the future.

What is the spot market?
More specifically, the spot market is where currencies are bought and sold according to the current price. That price, determined by supply and demand, is a reflection of many things, including current interest rates, economic performance, sentiment towards ongoing political situations (both locally and internationally), as well as the perception of the future performance of one currency against another. When a deal is finalized, this is known as a “spot deal”. It is a bilateral transaction by which one party delivers an agreed-upon currency amount to the counter party and receives a specified amount of another currency at the agreed-upon exchange rate value. After a position is closed, the settlement is in cash. Although the spot market is commonly known as one that deals with transactions in the present (rather than the future), these trades actually take two days for settlement.

What are the forwards and futures markets?
Unlike the spot market, the forwards and futures markets do not trade actual currencies. Instead they deal in contracts that represent claims to a certain currency type, a specific price per unit and a future date for settlement.

In the forwards market, contracts are bought and sold OTC between two parties, who determine the terms of the agreement between themselves.

In the futures market, futures contracts are bought and sold based upon a standard size and settlement date on public commodities markets, such as the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In the U.S., the National Futures Association regulates the futures market. Futures contracts have specific details, including the number of units being traded, delivery and settlement dates, and minimum price increments that cannot be customized. The exchange acts as a counterpart to the trader, providing clearance and settlement.

Both types of contracts are binding and are typically settled for cash for the exchange in question upon expiry, although contracts can also be bought and sold before they expire. The forwards and futures markets can offer protection against risk when trading currencies. Usually, big international corporations use these markets in order to hedge against future exchange rate fluctuations, but speculators take part in these markets as well. (For a more in-depth introduction to futures, see Futures Fundamentals.)

Note that you’ll see the terms: FX, forex, foreign-exchange market and currency market. These terms are synonymous and all refer to the forex market.

IronFX: A Reasonable Option for Trading

I have been trading for the past 9 years with various online trading portals. Trading is always a risky venture and sometimes I have suffered major losses too. Many of the trading portals are not reliable and have ended up with me making losses. But gradually I have been evolving as a trader and once you have the right insight into it, it really is a volatile venture. One major issue I’ve experienced with online portals is slow withdrawals. One has to be very patient while expecting returns.
Recently, I invested in forex with IronFX. The portal felt safe but withdrawal was again a bit slow. IronFX has recently started operating in Johannesburg and being a resident of the same place, my transactions have got faster and better. Some brokers in the past have even been fraud confiscating my money without any returns. But so far, IronFX seems safe and strong. I have also been given a personal account manager with whom I can connect 24*7. I usually trade from my mobile and their software is compatible to my device. So far, it seems a good option.

IronFX to Acquire the Insolvent Alpari UK’s Assets

IronFX is in discussions with Alpari UK over acquiring the assets of the insolvent company. The weekend talks about Alpari UK were to find a buyer for the assets of the company and to bring in enough capital to fulfill its regulatory capital requirements. It seems though that the only potential candidate who is in talks with Alpari UK is IronFX.
IronFX is a global leader of forex trading and is one of the largest FCA-regulated brokers of the world. There is no doubt that the only firm that could have inspired Alpari UK’s clients to not withdraw is IronFX. IronFX, being an international giant, has strong risk management systems and also fulfils all the international regulatory requirements. Also, DGCX-licensed Alpari Dubai complements IronFX’s MENA plans, its DFSA-authorized office in Dubai having been launched lately. Alpari UK’s subsidiary, Alpari Japan, could provide a big boost to IronFX’s operations in the market of Japan as IronFX does not have a presence thereyet. Perhaps this allegiance will boost the market.
Despite the existing litigation against Alpari UK, IronFX has been a willing acquirer of its assets. The litigation could have been a big hurdle for most of the interested parties. IronFX’s strong position leaves no doubt that it is the only reasonable option for Alpari UK.

Investors Seek IronFX

The company also has strong risk management systems, to provide extra protection to the investor.  Client balances never go negative, and client funds are segregated from company funds.
An investor invested in gold with IronFX and fetched a profit of 2000$ within 3 months. Another invested in exotics and earned 500$ within a week. These are only a few of the motivating examples created by IronFX and is continuing to do so.
